A LITTLE ABOUT ME...

People often ask me where the nickname 'Spartacus' comes from. It's actually a reference to one of my favorite films, 'That Thing You Do!', a 1996 comedy about the rise and fall of a fictional one hit wonder rock band. The main character is the drummer, who often exclaims "I AM SPARTACUS" throughout the movie - quoting his favorite movie, the 1960s war epic 'Spartacus'. This film and the persona of the main character inspired and stuck with me during my younger years, and along with the video game rock band, interested me in learning to play the drums. At the age of 13 I received my first drum kit and private lessons as a birthday gift from my parents and... the rest is history! Most parents have to force their kids to practice an instrument... mine had to beg me to STOP practicing much of the time. I learned and progressed very quickly as a drummer, and was having my first experiences professionally recording and performing for large audiences at the age of 15. By then I knew I wanted to make a career out of it, so I continued to work hard on my craft and was able to get into university - BYU - by virtue of my percussive talents. I continued playing for many different bands and solo artists during my college years and began taking on studio clients as well after building my own home studio space.
